The mission of the Smyrna Primary School Counseling Program is to provide a comprehensive, data-driven, school counseling program that is accessible to all students. We work with students and families to identify barriers to learning to ensure equity and access to resources for all families. We cultivate a safe and supportive environment through positive connections and empower our students to reach their full potential.

School counselors are certified/licensed educators with a minimum of a master’s degree in school counseling, making them uniquely qualified to address all students’ academic, career and social/emotional development needs by designing, implementing, evaluating and enhancing a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes and enhances student success

The elementary years are a time when students begin to develop their academic self-concept and feelings of competence and confidence as learners. They are beginning to develop decision-making, communication and life skills, as well as character values. It is also a time when students develop and acquire attitudes toward school, self, peers, social groups and family. Elementary school counselors are educators uniquely trained in child development, learning strategies, self-management and social skills, who understand and promote success for today’s diverse students.
